Passing the Test

By Richard

In Matthew 4 we read that after His baptism Jesus was taken into the wilderness to be tested. I’d never noticed before but with every test Jesus quotes back to Satan from Deuteronomy. Anyway, if this was a 3 point sermon then this is what I think Jesus was trying to communicate.

We need to feed on God’s word: Feeding on God’s word through Scripture reading, meditation, prayer, reading a good Christian book, listening to sermon on your mp3 player, etc. is more valuable than physical food. Are we regularly feeding on God’s word or are we spiritually starving?

We need to follow God’s leading: When we test God we are taking the lead. We are asking God to follow us. Will we follow God and trust Him through the highs and lows of life? Will we follow whatever the cost (following The Father would mean death for Jesus)?

We need to focus on God in worship: We all worship! Will we make it our lifetime goal to replace our tendency to focus on ourselves, our possessions and other people in worship and refocus our worship on God?
