Start Small

By Richard

“This is a large work I’ve called you into, but don’t be overwhelmed by it. It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirty, for instance. The smallest act of giving makes you a true apprentice. You won’t loose out on a thing.” (Matthew 10: 42, the Message))

This reminded me today that God is pleased with the smallest actions that I do in His name and that he will remember them for all eternity. Just imagine the smallest good deed done for God does not get lost in our busy world or dissolve into the sea of information overload. They are like tiny diamonds that God keeps and will remember us by for all eternity. Jesus reminds us to keep on doing those small acts of goodness that only God might ever notice.

I was also reminded of how I so often feel overwhelmed by the amount of work to be done in his name and how it’s best to start small. A while back I thought of a pair of scales. On one side was the kingdom of God and on the other side was the kingdom of the world. The kingdom of the world, darkness maybe, far outweighed the kingdom of God. But God showed me that every small deed done for Him added a tiny bit of weight to the kingdom of God and that one day enough good deeds would tip the balance and bring about a massive change for His kingdom. I felt like God was asking me to change the world one small good deed at a time. I’m praying that Mountainview be a church that changes our area by a plethora of small, humble deeds done in honour of Jesus.
